Role Description

This department is seeking a skilled Solution Architect who can drive change, simplify complexity and help shape the future of its technology landscape. As part of a centralised enterprise architecture team, the Solution Architect will provide architecture guidance and support to technology work programs and technical teams, ensuring solutions align with the department’s intended future state.

Practical experience with day-to-day technology challenges will be critical in developing forward-thinking architecture strategies and designs that guide investment and align with business objectives and technology strategy. The role will work across a variety of technology-driven initiatives, identifying risks and dependencies to support an assured and cohesive approach to delivery. Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills will also be essential to enable effective partner integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Architecture Outcomes for Operational Maturity: Drive a strategic approach to technology investment that prioritises the delivery of a seamless, secure, and integrated digital ecosystem, ensuring technical output aligns directly with business value.

  • Drive Technology Rationalisation: Ensure all proposed technical solutions align with the Branch’s strategic priorities—specifically reducing technical debt, eliminating ecosystem redundancy, and accelerating the transition to a high-velocity cloud environment.

  • Institutionalise Technical Knowledge: Develop and maintain a centralised repository of reference architectures, standards, and blueprints to eliminate key-person risk and provide repeatable, optimised frameworks for service delivery.

  • Enable Innovation and Velocity: Identify and integrate emerging technologies and intelligent automation to pivot human capital from repetitive sustainment tasks toward strategic, high-impact initiatives.

  • Mitigate Systemic Operational Risk: Proactively identify and manage architectural risks and critical dependencies, ensuring enterprise resilience and the stability of corporate workflows.

  • Foster a Collaborative Enablement Culture: Build strategic partnerships across the technical cohort and external agency partners to optimise organisational throughput and ensure a cohesive approach to digital ecosystem delivery.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering-related discipline

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrated 7+ years of hands-on work experience in a system/platform technical design, software development or system/platform administration field.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, including communicating technical and architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Proficiency in analysing business and technical requirements to provide strategic guidance and support decision making.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering multiple lines of tasking in a resource constrained environment.

  • An eagerness to learn and inspire others.

  • Ability to think critically and respectfully contest ideas to facilitate informed decision-making.

  • Resilience and drive to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve outcomes.
