Job Description

Remote is seeking a Software Tester to join the team at ASD. The Software Tester will be responsible under general direction for creating and executing fit for purpose test plans and test cases, in accordance with the project’s testing strategy. The Software Tester will also ensure traceability to requirements, manage defects, provide regular process reporting and work collaboratively with delivery staff to coordinate testing and regression activities.

Role Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute fit for purpose test plans and test cases, in accordance with the project's testing strategy.
  • Document traceability between requirements and test cases.
  • Document test scripts, materials and regression test packs to test new and amended software or services.
  • Automate testing activities where possible, including through the development of bespoke test harnesses.
  • Specify requirements for environment, data, resources and tools to facilitate efficient and effective testing. Interpret, execute and document complex test scripts using agreed methods and standards.
  • Record and analyse actions and results, maintain a defect register and work closely with the delivery team to progress defect resolutions and regression testing.
  • Provide reports on testing progress, anomalies, risks and issues.
  • Report on system quality and collect metrics on test cases.
  • Work collaboratively and constructively as part of an Agile delivery team to ensure the timely delivery of quality ICT capability.
  • Work with fellow team members to improve business processes and share knowledge.

Candidates must have the following technical skills:

  • Testing experience in an Agile software delivery environment.

  • Experience within complex projects providing testing support.

Essential criteria:

  • Quality assurance: Level 3 (SFIA)

Contributes to the collection of evidence and the conduct of formal audits or reviews of activities. Examines records for evidence that appropriate testing and other quality control activities have taken place. Determines compliance with organisational directives, standards and procedures and identifies non-compliances, non-conformances and abnormal occurrences.

  • Testing: Level 5 (SFIA)

Plans and drives testing activities across all stages and iterations of product, systems and service development. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of test planning and execution. Adopts and adapts appropriate testing methods, automated tools and techniques to solve problems in tools and testing approaches. Measures and monitors applications of standards for testing. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Identifies improvements and contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for testing.

  • User experience evaluation: Level 3 (SFIA)

Evaluates design options and prototypes to obtain user feedback on requirements of developing systems, products, services or devices. Tests the usability and accessibility of components and alternative designs. Administers a range of evaluations, recording data and feedback. Analyses evaluation data and recommends actions. Identifies areas for future user research. Checks systems, products, services or devices for adherence to applicable standards, guidelines, style guides, and legislation. Evaluates the usability of existing or competitor systems to provide benchmark values and as input to design.

Investigates straightforward business situations to identify and analyse problems and opportunities. Contributes to the recommendation of improvements. Follows agreed standards and techniques to investigate, analyse and document business situations. Engages with stakeholders under direction.
