Job Description
Remote is seeking a Solution Architect to join to the team at ASD. The successful candidate will lead the preparation of technical plans and ensure the availability of appropriate technical resources. You will ensure that tools and methods are understood and employed in architecture development, providing technical guidance and governance on solution development and integration. Your role involves evaluating requests for changes and deviations from specifications, recommending actions, and ensuring that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices (including security) are correctly applied.
Role Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the preparation of technical plans and ensures that appropriate technical resources are made available.
- Ensures that appropriate tools and methods are available, understood and employed in architecture development.
- Provides technical guidance and governance on solution development and integration.
- Evaluates requests for changes and deviations from specifications and recommends actions.
- Ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.
- Develop the target design, policies and standards, for a broad range of business use cases, ensuring consistency of design across the enterprise, and facilitating endorsement by the appropriate Design Authority.
- Drive cloud architecture at a strategic level across all lines of business, specifically toward self-service cloud adoption/migration.
- Engage with mission areas to understand their needs, developing strategic and/or tactical solutions appropriate the enterprise vision and intended mission outcome.
- Develop and implement technology and solution structures in line with Senior Executives' cloud-first vision
- Review internal/externally developed architecture and design artefacts to ensure consistency with enterprise designs, policies and standards.
- Advise Program Management and Design Authority on technical risks and mitigations.
- Manage high-risk decision-making processes and responsibilities.
Technical skills
Essential
- At least 5-10 years’ experience developing solution architecture for complex projects
- Strong leadership experience and skills
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
Desirable:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering Experience managing complex projects

- Enterprise and business architecture: Level 5 (SFIA)
Develops models and plans to drive the execution of the business strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. Contributes to creating and reviewing a systems capability strategy which meets the business's strategic requirements. Determines requirements and specifies effective business processes, through improvements in technology, information or data practices, organisation, roles, procedures and equipment.
- Requirements definition and management: Level 5 (SFIA)
Plans and drives scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for large, complex initiatives. Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate requirements definition and management methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to the development of organisational methods and standards for requirements management. Obtains input from, and agreement to requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders. Negotiates with stakeholders to manage competing priorities and conflicts. Establishes requirements baselines. Ensures changes to requirements are investigated and managed.
- Solution architecture: Level 4 (SFIA)
Contributes to the development of solution architectures in specific business, infrastructure or functional areas. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the trade-offs in cost, performance and scalability. Determines and documents architecturally significant decisions. Produces specifications of cloud-based or on-premises components, tiers and interfaces, for translation into detailed designs using selected services and products. Supports projects or change initiatives through the preparation of technical plans and application of design principles. Aligns solutions with enterprise and solution architecture standards (including security).
- Systems design: Level 5 (SFIA)
Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and non-functional requirements. Reviews systems designs and ensures that appropriate methods, tools and techniques are applied effectively. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies, standards and selection of architecture components.
