Job Description

Remote is seeking Junior System Administrators to join the team at ASD. The Junior System Administrator will be proficient in installing, repairing, and maintaining network systems and in programming languages.

Role Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Accountable for installing hardware and software using the supplied installation instructions and tools.
  • Perform routine installations and de-installations of items of hardware and software according to Australian Signals Directorate and organisation policy and procedures.
  • Use experience to identify operation problems and contribute to their resolution in accordance with agreed standards and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and contribute to solutions and goals of a non-routine or contingency nature.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to develop understanding of their expectations and concerns and respond accordingly.
  • Solve a defined range of unpredictable problems following established operating policies and procedures.

Technical skills:

  • Proficient in operating systems, networking, database management, and security protocols
  • Proficient in installing, repairing, and maintaining network systems
  • Proficient in programming languages.

Essential criteria:

  • HSIN 3 - Systems installation and removal: Level 3 (SFIA) Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
  • SYSP 3 - System software: Level 3 (SFIA) Monitors operational systems for resource usage and failure rates, to inform and facilitate system software tuning. Applies system software parameters to maximise throughput and efficiency. Installs and tests new versions of system software. Contributes to preparation of software implementation procedures with fall back contingency plans.
  • ITOP 2 - IT infrastructure: Level 2 (SFIA) Carries out routine operational procedures, including the execution of specified automation tools/scripts. Amends existing automation tasks under supervision to gain a basic understanding of the scripting language/automation tools. Contributes to maintenance and installation. Monitors and reports on infrastructure performance to enable service delivery. Resolves issues or refers to others for assistance.
