Job Description

Remote is seeking Senior Network Engineers to join the team at ASD. The Senior Network Engineers will exercise a significant degree of independence and perform a subject matter expert role. They will demonstrate a high level of decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have extensive experience in and knowledge of the service delivery function and are responsible for leading the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the agency. They will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

Role Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Accountable for providing leadership and direction to ICT project teams and generate reports to the program management office.
  • Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
  • Accountable for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, workflows, developing strategies and evaluating project outputs.
  • Provide clear direction as to ensure that there is a business perspective on how the new technical capabilities will be delivered to the business including planning around key business cycles, selecting appropriate customers for migration.
  • Share their expert knowledge of ICT project management tools to prepare project plans including but not limited to, risk management, quality, financial, procurement, acquisition strategy, resourcing, project briefs, project management plans and post implementation reviews.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders and team members relating to highly complex projects and systems.
  • Build and sustain relationships with a network of key people internally and externally.
  • Evaluate project and program performance to understand and anticipate critical factors for success and recommend changes where necessary.

Technical skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within Network Engineering roles
  • Proficient in network automation
  • Extensive knowledge of network fundamentals; such as protocols, architectures, devices, topologies and standards
  • Desirable: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related fields.

Essential criteria:

  • NTDS 6 - Network design: Level 6 (SFIA) Takes responsibility for major aspects of network specification, standards, technologies and overall network design models within the organisation. Produces network design policies, principles and criteria covering connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, resilience, recovery and access.
  • HSIN 5 - Systems installation and removal: Level 5 (SFIA) Takes responsibility for installation and/or decommissioning projects. Provides effective team leadership, including information flow to and from the customer during project work. Develops and implements quality plans and method statements. Monitors the effectiveness of installations and ensures that appropriate recommendations for change are made.
  • HWDE 6 - Hardware design: Level 6 (SFIA) Provides overall direction and leadership in the hardware design practice within an enterprise. Influences industry-based models for the development of new technology and components. Develops effective procurement strategies, consistent with business needs. Drives adoption and ensures adherence to organisational policies, strategies and standards for hardware design.
  • ITOP 5 - IT infrastructure: Level 5 (SFIA) Provides technical leadership to optimise the performance of IT infrastructure. Investigates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and services. Oversees the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure components and infrastructure-based services. Aligns to service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards. Ensures that operational procedures and documentation are fit for purpose and kept up to date. Ensures that operational issues are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers.
  • CPMG 6 - Capacity management: Level 6 (SFIA) Leads the development and implementation of policy and strategies for capacity and performance management to meet business needs. Leads capacity modelling and forecasting over the organisation’s planning or budgeting cycle. Ensures that the policies and standards for capacity management are fit for purpose, current and correctly implemented. Reviews new business proposals and provides specialist advice on capacity issues.
