Job Description
Remote is seeking Junior Network Engineers to join the team at ASD. The Network Engineer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the ICT service delivery function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist, technical research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment, investigations and perform procedural, clerical, administrative support work to achieve results. They will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They may be a team coach or supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.
Role Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:
- Accountable to contribute to the design and implementation of maintenance and installation work and implements agreed network changes and maintenance routines.
- Administer and maintain specific security procedures as required by Defence and organisation policy to maintain confidentiality, resilience, integrity and availability of networked systems and devices.
- Understand and apply knowledge of the current Defence and industry accepted hardware and software products relevant to ICT network engineering.
- Understand and apply knowledge of the capabilities of current Defence and industry data, voice and audio networking devices and procedures.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback.
- Investigate and resolve network problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
- Design and recommend solutions to issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes.
Technical skills:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a network engineer role or similar
- Basic understanding of network fundamentals, such as protocols, architectures, devices, topologies and standards
- Ability to design and implement network solutions that meet business and technical requirements
- Basic knowledge and experience of network security
- Proficient in network automation.
Essential criteria
- IT infrastructure: Level (ITOP) Level 3: Provisions/installs, configures and maintains infrastructure services and components. Monitors, measures and reports on infrastructure load, performance and security events. Identifies operational issues and contributes to their resolution. Carries out agreed operational procedures, including backup/restore, using supplied infrastructure tools and scripts. Carries out agreed system software maintenance tasks. Automates routine system administration tasks to specifications using standard tools and basic scripting.
- Systems installation and removal (HSIN) Level 3: Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
- Network support (NTAS) Level 2: Contributes to the operational configuration of network components. Assists in the investigation and resolution of network problems. Assists with specified maintenance procedures.
