Job Description

Remote is seeking System Engineers to join the team at ASD. The System Engineers will work within multi-disciplinary team environments to assist in the development, delivery, sustainment and remediation of capabilities. The System Engineers should be an organised and outcomes orientated individual with good communication skills, confident in prosecuting a number of technical undertakings and work packages from concept to delivery. The System Engineers will undertake planning and implementation of capability through functions including; high and detailed design, implementation, testing, trouble shooting, evaluation & remediation, and transition to operations.

Role Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Provide engineering services to all aspects of the system development lifecycle.
  • Analyse complex systems and apply engineering expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Installs or removes hardware and/or software. Conducts tests, corrects malfunctions.
  • Designs, codes, tests, corrects, and documents moderately complex programs and scripts.
  • Defines the integration build and produces a build definition for generation of the software.
  • Participate in the review of externally developed test plans and procedures to ensure integration with requirements and verification processes.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders in documentation development.
  • Resolve issues and or problems that arise during the course of capability development.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures.

Technical skills:

  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX-based environments
  • Good knowledge of programming languages
  • Experience in monitoring systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Familiarity with automation software.

Essential criteria:

  • ITOP 4 - IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA) Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.
  • DESN 4 - Systems design: Level 4 (SFIA) Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology. Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs. Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Models, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders. Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems. Reviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.
  • HSIN 3 - Systems installation and removal: Level 3 (SFIA) Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
  • USEV 4 - User experience evaluation: Level 4 (SFIA) Selects appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate user experiences of systems, products, services or devices. Validates that security, usability and accessibility requirements have been met. Checks operational systems, products, services or devices for changes in usability and accessibility needs. Interprets and presents results of evaluations, prioritises issues and reports on remedial actions. Collates input for future user research.
  • TEST 4 - Testing: Level 4 (SFIA) Selects appropriate testing approach, including manual and automated testing. Develops and executes test plans and test cases. Implements scalable and reliable automated tests and frameworks. Collaborates across parties involved in product, systems or service design and development to enable comprehensive test coverage. Identifies improvements in requirements, design or specification processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of testing. Analyses and reports on test activities, results, issues and risks, including the work of others.
